Health and Medical Sciences is a specially designed academy pathway for students considering a future in healthcare—where plenty of career opportunities await. Do you dream of someday being a doctor? Ever wondered what you could do in the field of sports medicine? Are you interested in science but don't know much about science-related jobs? If you once thought you might to be a veterinarian or nurse, pharmacist or dental hygienist, dietician or laboratory technician, then Health and Medical Sciences is your pathway.
The Health and Medical Sciences academy seeks to engage students in a college preparatory curriculum that combines university-required coursework with medical technology and health industry experiences geared to show students the many career choices before deciding which direction to go with your future education. Community partners include U.C. Davis Medical Center, U.C. Davis Biotechnology Program, American River College, Sacramento City College, Blood Source, Briarwood Health Care, and more. As seniors, students are placed in medical related internships throughout the city, and these internships often lead to jobs that earn students money for college and more.
Academy graduates report that the interesting internships, fieldtrips, healthcare simulations, and other hands-on projects have transformed their lives by showing them the real world of healthcare outside high school—before they graduate. Students say this academy "…really prepares you!" |
